Tapazole is an anti-thyroid agent used to reduce the amount of thyroid hormone in cases of hyperthyroidism. Tapazole (methimazole) is used by veterinarians to treat overactive (hyper) thyroid in cats.

Directions for Tapazole (Methimazole)
The usual dose of Tapazole (methimazole) in cats is 5mg per cat every 8-12 hours. Blood tests are repeated every 3-4 weeks until the proper maintenance dose is reached, then blood testing is repeated every 3-6 months. The medication is needed for the rest of the animals life, if the medication is discontinued, the symptoms will reappear.

Side effects of Tapazole (Methimazole)
Tapazole (methimazole) should not be used in animals allergic to it. Do not use in patients with liver disease, autoimmune disease or blood abnormalities. Do not use methimazole in pregnant or nursing animals.
